Andy Ruiz Jr, the former unified heavyweight champion overcame an early knockdown to win a deserved unanimous victory against Chris Arreola. In his first bout in 17 months, a slimmed-down Andy Ruiz Jr. outshone veteran Chris Arreola. Being a title eliminator means Ruiz will have a bigger matchup ahead against the elite of the division.

In the post-match interview, Chris Arreola shared his thoughts. He said, “I respect the judges. But today, I always said beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They like a butterface. Everything’s pretty but their face. Honestly, man, did he win? Fine. But don’t tell me you’re only gonna give me two, three rounds. F*** that! I’m gonna be like Dr. Dre. All y’all can suck my motherf***ing d*ck!”

The 40-year-old Arreola, who challenged unsuccessfully for titles on four occasions, had an interesting night. He created incredible drama as an overwhelming underdog in Round 2 when a short right hand dropped Ruiz.

Arreola went on to hurt Ruiz a second time later in the round and once more in Round 3 as the unpredictability of heavyweight boxing was on full display.

Arreola was seemingly upset with the unanimous decision against him. The problem, however, for Arreola was that he didn’t throw enough punches over the second half of the fight.

Despite remaining competitive, he left the door open for Ruiz to target the body and bank round after round due to intelligent boxing. Andy Ruiz Jr was respectful of his opponent and acknowledged his skills.

Ruiz said, “Chris Arreola is a veteran and a hard puncher. We did what we had to do and we won the victory. But remember that I was the lowest of the lowest and had to come back. We did what we had to do and thanks to God we got this victory. On to the next. He got me with a good, clean right hand. I dropped my hand a little bit. I was too overconfident and hats off to Chris Arreola, he got me with a good one. But we kept going and we got the victory.”

Despite the loss, Chris is not going to be discouraged and will never back down from a boxing match. His mental strength is on a level of it’s own and we sincerely hope to watch the legend step back in the ring again.
