Will Chris Paul Join The Los Angeles Lakers?

Chris Paul

After the victory of the Lakers, all eyes of fans are on Chris Paul from Oklahoma City Thunder. NBA 2019-2020 ended on October 11, 2020, with the Los Angeles Lakers’ victory against the Miami Heat. The match was a tough one, but they managed to gain success. The MVP of the finals was LeBron James. It was his fourth title.

The year 2020 has been disastrous for the Lakers after the sudden departure of iconic Kobe Bryant in a helicopter crash. This winning of the Lakers was a tribute to him.

Another good news for the Lakers is the possible arrival of Oklahoma City Thunder player Chris Paul in the Los Angeles Lakers. NBA Executives have dropped the hints by saying that LeBron can use his influence to pick Chris Paul in the team.

With the Championship under their belt, they have agency over picking the new players to change the game’s future. Free agency means the team will get new players for the future NBA championships.

Why Should Chris Paul Come to the LA Lakers?

The year was challenging for the Lakers, but the victory has allowed them to enjoy the fruits of labor. Since they are enjoying the celebration, it doesn’t mean they are resting all the time. Lakers have to deal with their players’ free agency like Davis and Rondo while strengthening the team with trade.

Although many think that the Lakers are quite substantial as a team, they don’t consider that top player from other teams like Stephen Curry or Kevin Durant in their full strength are a challenge. Their rivals are going to solidify their bases, so the Lakers can’t risk remaining careless.

What does Chris Paul think?

Chris Paul is currently playing for Oklahoma City Thunder, but he has been hinting about the possibility that he will be joining them. It was suggested way back in 2011 but couldn’t happen. It will be a treat for the fans if ever comes to the Lakers.

NBA speculators and executives think that LeBron will use his influence to bring him to their team. Rondo is hitting the free agency, and they desperately need an A-League point-guard for the team.

Here’s what Eric Pincus thinks about it:

“Chris Paul would love to come back to L.A. I know it would be a dream come true for Chris. I know LeBron loves and trusts him, and he would be a good fit. It seems like a risk, but sometimes you need to [execute big moves] to make yourself even better,” the executive continued. “The [Golden State] Warriors will be better. The [Los Angeles] Clippers may be better. The [Denver] Nuggets aren’t going to get worse. Your competition is getting better. It worked [in Orlando] for the Lakers, but I don’t know if you have a normal regular season without the bubble if it does.”

Problems for the Lakers

The biggest issue that the Lakers will have to face is payments. Chris Paul still has a two-year-long contract pending and a whopping $85.6 million price tag. It means that the Lakers will need to make their wallet empty.

If the Lakers management doesn’t want to trouble their future with the players’ salary, they will need a solid salary plan before bringing Paul to their side.
