WBA Champion Callum Smith Challenges Saul Canelo in the Super Middle

WBA Champion Callum Smith Challenges Saul Canelo in the Super Middle

WBA Super Middle-Class world champion Callum Smith sends a challenge signal to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. Smith warned Canelo that he was the ruler of the Super Middle Class if Canelo was tempted to target another title in the 76.2Kg Class.

The pound-per-pound champion from Mexico became the ruler of four different divisions after knocking out Sergey Kovalev to claim the WBO Light Heavyweight belt. Smith was once associated with a super fight against Canelo in the past.

He believes he must be a natural opponent of Canelo returns to the Middle Class after the WBA title victory over Rocky Fielding last December.

“I think he will go down (division), whether he goes back to 72.5 Kg (Intermediate) or 76.2 Kg (Super Intermediate), I don’t know,” Smith told Sky Sports.

“I have seen an interview, saying he will consider the Explorers Class. I don’t know, but if he comes to 76.2Kg, I believe I am No. 1 in the division, so he has to come and beat me to take the place,” he said.

“But I won’t waste my career waiting for battles that might never have happened. If that happens, it happens, if not, there are still many other big fights.”

Smith is planned to go up the ring defending the ‘super’ WBA title against John Ryder in his hometown on November 23. The World Boxing Series winner is aiming for a victory over the dangerous London boxer.

“He has a career going up and down, and he may be at the peak of his career now,” said the 29-year-old boxer. “I feel I am in the best form of my career.”

“Now I am ranked number 1 in the world for a reason and I feel the best version of me beats the John Ryder version, even if he is 100 percent.”
