UFC 255 main card preview and analysis
Flyweight title holder Deiveson Figueiredo never had a chance to play for the title defense after winning the championship. On the other hand, on women’s flyweight, Shevchenko won the title in 2018, and since then, she is unbeaten, and now Shevchenko is standing at 5-0 after she started flyweight.
Figueiredo vs. Perez fight will be one of the exciting title bouts of 2020 as Deiveson Figueiredo is unstoppable with his 19-1-0 record. While on the other hand, with few more matches than Figueiredo, Perez is also unstoppable on a 24-5-0 record. However, facing Perez will be challenging for Figueiredo as Alex Perez is younger, is in peak performance. Since his only loss against Jussier Formiga, Figueiredo has made a significant improvement, which is visible in his last four fights on his striking finishing capabilities. On another note, after joining the UFC, Perez has one loss too, and he also remains unbeaten after that match in 2018.
So, between Perez and Figueiredo, it could be a tough call.
For the women’s title Shevchenko has possibilities to keep the belt to her as she is dominant in the 125-pound class since winning the title against Joanna Jedrzejczyk. On the other hand, the opponent Jennifer Maria should be confident as she beat Joanne Calderwood in august, which makes are a potential title contender. However, Shevchenko won 8 fights out of the last 10, and observers and fans are pretty confident about her win. Since Shevchenko’s last two losses came against Amanda Nunes, it feels that only Nunes can stop her again.
But, if I look at Maria, she is great at the ground game, and she is durable on that. Still, my bet will be for Valentina Shevchenko.
On the other three main cards, Tim Means will get the benefits over Mike Perry, as Perry is out of the track with a 3-5 record on his last eight fights. In the 125 pounds category, Katlyn Chookagian is one of the top talents who is staying ahead to win the fight against Cynthia Calvillo on the UFC 255 main card. The first fight of the main card will be between Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Paul Craig. They have met earlier last year, which was a draw. However, Rua is the most experienced fighter while Craig is standing at 13 – 4 – 1, but Rua has more losses if I consider the ratio. So, Paul Craig may win the fight.
