Valentino Rossi is back on the podium after a long time. Not in the MotoGP arena, but in the Gulf 12 Hours endurance racing car.
Rossi followed the Gulf 12 Hours car race at the Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Saturday (12/14/2019). At the event which took twelve hours, The Doctor dropped in the Pro-Am class with the Monster VR46 Kessel team.
In this race, the nine-time MotoGP world champion was using a Ferrari 488 GT3. He was accompanied by two other riders, Luca Marini and Alessio ‘Uccio’ Salucci.
Starting the race in the seventh position from 30 participants, Rossi completed the race in third place. He and his three colleagues only lost to two Attempto Racing team participants who used the Audi R8 GT-3.
Although he could only finish third, but Rossi claimed to be satisfied with the achievement. He was also pleased with the performance of his half-sister, Luca Marini, who demonstrated the extraordinary potential of the race on the track. In MotoGP last season, Rossi only went up to the podium twice, the runner-up position in Argentina and the United States.
“We are very pleased with this result. We are the first in our category, but to finish third in the whole race is an extraordinary satisfaction,” Rossi was quoted as saying by Crash.
“I immediately felt at home with the car and the team, but above all, this was very pleasant. Luca was really strong, his potential in racing impressed me,” Rossi revealed.
“I have seen it at the Monza rally, but today he is increasingly confirming his talent. The team also saw the extraordinary performance of Uccio, who with this result has achieved one of his lifelong dreams,” Rossi said.
The 40-year-old rider is indeed fond of endurance car racing, and several times participated in various previous events. Rossi also claimed to want to continue his career in the world of endurance racing, if he decided to hang a helmet from MotoGP.
