Full weight Jairzinho Rozenstruik is close to making the most important fight of his career, at UFC Washington. The fighter agreed at the last minute to face Alistair Overeem.
In an interview with BJ Penn.com, Jairzinho talked about the fight this Saturday.
“It’s very important. A victory over Overeem brings me closer to the belt, and I can’t wait for that. I am Suriname’s first fighter to fight in the UFC and make a stellar fight, which is great for us. I am happy to be able to represent my country at the highest level of MMA,” said Jairzinho.

Rozenstruik didn’t have much time to prepare for this fight. He accepted at the last minute after Walt Harris left the fight after his daughter disappeared last month.
In his last fight, he faced Andrei Arlovski at UFC 244, in early November. In the fight, the striker knocked out the former champion in less than 30 seconds.
For Rozenstruik, the lack of time to carry out a strategy against Overeem will not be a problem. As he had no serious bruises in his last fight, he had no problem accepting to face Overeem, who is currently in the sixth position.
“I am always ready. It was the perfect moment because I am coming out of a fight where I suffered no damage. For me, it is a great opportunity. If I think about my future, when would I have an opportunity like this? Never. Therefore, I accepted, ”he said.
“All fights are different. I have to be in front of my rival. It is a fact that I am ready. I’m ready for Overeem, so if he makes a mistake, I’ll be able to finish the fight. Any mistake will be punished with a KO. A mistake and that’s it, ” concluded the fighter.
