UFC: Sage Northcutt will return to the Lightweights

For his next performance at the ONE Championship string, Sage Northcutt will return to the division where he has been most successful: 155 pounds.

Northcutt, considered at one time one of the great promises of the UFC, was the victim of one of the most brutal knockouts of the year at the end of the experienced kickboxer, Cosmo Alexandre, which was his debut with the promotion in the ONE Championship: Enter the Dragon.

Since then, ‘Super Sage’ has been recovering from the multiple facial fractures he suffered after the fight, and although he still doesn’t have a specific name, he has confirmed that the next time he competes it will be at 155 pounds, which in ONE is known as the Featherweight division.

“Right now I am not thinking of opponents, but now I am going down two divisions,” Northcutt told MMA Junkie. “In the previous promotion in which I competed, I achieved a record of 5 – 0 as Lightweight, so I will have to lose the Featherweight.”

Precisely in the UFC, the only fights that Northcutt lost was in the Welterweight division.

The 23-year-old fighter believes he lost in his ONE debut by competing in a division he doesn’t naturally belong to.

“I competed at 185 pounds, so I was eating and drinking too much to gain weight and add some muscle because I’m only 23. So I’m going back down again. I learned my lesson about fighting in a division for which I am not very big. I will return to 155 pounds and that will be the best for me.”
