In the UFC Fight Night Singapore star fight, two of the best grapplers of the 170 pounds were measured, and Maia’s mastery at the level of the canvas proved to be decisive.
Askren, who came from being knocked out in record time by Jorge Masvidal at UFC 239, knocked down Maia like nobody else, but the Brazilian showed how comfortable he feels even when he has his back against the canvas.

Although the striking was a waste of part and part, Maia, at 41, turned off the lights with a slaughter of an Askren who would be very close to the retreat.
With this submission by mataleón, Askren adds three consecutive victories after obtaining a unanimous decision on Anthony Rocco Martin and submitting Lyman Good.
Besides, the Brazilian made two submissions to reach the record held by his countryman, Charles Oliveira (13).

For Askren, this is his second defeat followed as a professional and the first time he is submitted to the MMA.
