UFC Vegas 27: Cody Garbrandt Wants a Coin Toss Before Punching Rob Font

Cody asks to Dana "send the contracts”

Cody Garbrandt is gearing up for his return to the Octagon. Moreover, Cody will be fighting top prospect Rob Font in the main event of UFC Vegas 27 on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Speaking to DAZN News, Cody speaks about how the past few months have been for him. Following a spectacular knockout of Raphael Assuncao, Cody was going to fight flyweight champion, Deveison Figueredo at UFC 255. Unfortunately, COVID-19 and a torn bicep ruled Garbrandt out of the bout.

Moreover, Cody’s fight with Figueredo was not rescheduled either and went to Brandon Moreno instead. However, Cody is confident that he can beat Font and once again earn a title shot at flyweight. Following his recovery from COVID and injury, Cody has been relentless in his training.

“I’m going to wake up in the morning, flip the coin and decide which round, how I want to take him out, and which hand to knock him out with,” Garbrandt says. “I’m going to wake up in the morning on Saturday and flip the coin. (If it) lands on heads, it’s the right hand and (if it) lands on tails, it’s the left hand.”

Previously, Garbrandt, 29, has already been the king of the hill in the sport, when he won the UFC championship in 2016. However, he’s also been down in the dumps, after losses via KO/TKO three consecutive times from 2017 to 2020.

Can Cody Garbrandt beat Rob Font?

Whilst Cody Garbrandt is a good fighter, his opponent Rob Font is no slouch either. Big and athletic, Font is also capable of eating shots, something that is a weakness of Cody. Moreover, Rob has also shown a very calm and composed approach to fights as opposed to Cody’s recent outings.

However, Cody ‘No Love’ possesses lightning fast striking and reflexes, as seen in his fight with Assuncao. Additionally, he recognizes his weakness of getting overly emotional in some fights, which have ultimately led to losses. As such, many fans are backing Garbrandt, provided he can remain composed throughout the fight.

Since Cody wants to fight for the flyweight title next, it will be important for him to prove his mettle and worthiness in this fight. Moreover, he needs to start putting a run together in the bantamweight division as well if he wishes to be a double champ.
