Raoni Barcelos is a Brazilian former amateur wrestler and grappler, and a professional mixed martial artist. For a speedy recovery, the 33-year-old has to change his plans for going up face-to-face against Marcelos Rojo at UFC Vegas 20.
Breaking the news
Raoni Barcelos on his official Twitter handle uploaded his video and broke the news. Furthermore, the Brazilian apologized to his fans and vowed to be back as soon as possible. Barcelos further disclosed that fortunately, his case is mild. Moreover, he is not suffering from any of the virus’s symptoms, hopefully meaning a faster return to the cage.
“Unfortunately, I’m here to inform that I tested positive for COVID. I took the test on Saturday, the result came out last night and it was positive. Unfortunately, I’ll be withdrawing from the card on February 27. I’m feeling fine, with no symptoms. My wife also feels fine. I think God does everything at the right moment. If this is not my time to fight, let’s take the time to recover. Soon enough I’ll be back and putting on a show for you guys. Thanks, guys.” -Raoni Barcelos. (via https://www.bloodyelbow.com/)
Undoubtedly, the Brazilian is a great fighter with a 16-1 record and is currently on a five-fight win streak. Post his only loss in April 2014, tapping out by Mark Dickman at RFA 14, the 33-year-old fighter has successfully defeated Kurt Holobaugh, Chris Gutierrez, Carlos Huachin, Said Nurmagomedov, and Khalid Taha.
As Rojo was a short-notice replacement for the original opponent, Raphael Assuncao, who left the card in early February, it continues to stay unclear whether Rojo will remain on the card or if the fight shifts to a future event.
However, the wait for UFC Vegas 20 is almost over. The event will take place at the UFC Apex, on February 27, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card is expected to be headlined by Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Ciryl Gane.
