Kevin Holland Seeks Daniel Cormier’s Help to Stop Takedowns after Two big UFC Main event Losses

Kevin Holland prepares to fight Derek Brunson in their middleweight fight during the UFC Fight Night event at UFC APEX on March 20, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada

The three-time UFC performance of the night winner, Kevin Holland, is now standing at two losing streaks after the most recent loss against Marvin Vettori. Instead of fighting at random main events, Holland now wants to work on excelling his skills.

Before fighting his first main event on March 20, Holland achieved five consecutive wins, and he was in the tenth position in the UFC middleweight division. Last night’s loss made him think seriously about his combatting moves. Hence, Holland wants to take training on wrestling from Cormier and wants to polish up his takedown skills.

The double UFC champion, Daniel Cormier is highly skilled at wrestling and was a six-time US World or Olympic wrestling Team Member.

After the ABC2 UFC bout, Holland appeared in an interview with Megan Olivy and expressed his future plans. “Go spend some time with DC, for sure, work on some of that wrestling,” Holland said when asked about his plans moving forward.

“Go work on wrestling, learn to stop some of these takedowns. Other than that, same old same. I’m not gonna change the fighter I am and try and become a wrestler just ’cause these guys wanna wrestle.”

Cormier’s comment on Kevin Holland

In a post-fight analysis, DC shared his opinions on Kevin Holland. He feels Holland should work on his takedown defense. “There will be no championship, or anything even close if Holland’s takedown defense doesn’t get markedly better. But Holland has all the other skills it takes to sit on top of the pack one day,” DC stated about Holland’s improvements.

Cormier advised Holland’s team to fix those issues. He conveyed, “But he’s going to need to take a little time to go and fix some of these issues he’s got.”

Although Holland expressed his intention to develop his wrestling skill with the help of the former UFC champ, DC is yet to make any remark on that. Trailblazer is excellent at strikes and punches. Therefore, improving his wrestling skill with the help of Cormier will boost Holland’s fighting capability.
