Kamaru Usman declares His Rematch With Colby Covington Will Be a Violent Matchup

Kamaru Usman is keen to stay active and fight regularly. Earlier, the welterweight champ knocked out Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261 to make his fourth title defense.

UFC President Dana White previously revealed that a rematch with Colby Covington was the next “fight to make”. However, there were also rumors that Usman will be making a quick return back to Octagon against Michael Chiesa. Naturally, fans will be more excited to see a rematch with ‘Chaos’ Covington.

“It’s a fun fight, it’s an incredible fight, and it’s a fight that I like because I went to that (violent) place”. Whilst Kamaru is up for running it back with Covington, he feels that ‘Chaos’ needs to show him something, for the fight to “make sense”.

“At the end of the day, what has [Covington] done to earn this?”, says the champ. Usman points out how Covington has not been active for so long and not done anything noteworthy since beating Tyron Woodley at UFC Fight Night on Sep 20, 2020.

Furthermore, Kamaru points out how Leon Edwards and Michael Chiesa, are more exciting propositions. Edwards is on an eight-fight win streak and faces Nate Diaz at UFC 263 next. On the other hand, Chiesa is on a four-fight win streak beating the likes of Neil Magny and RDA.

Will Kamaru Usman Fight Colby Covington Again?

Whilst the UFC views a rematch with Colby as a more profitable proposition, UFC 263 could provide them with another option. Kamaru Usman feels that if Edwards or Nate Diaz impress him, he would be open to fighting either of them. However, his rivalry and animosity towards Covington are likely to drive a hard bargain in his mind.

Previously, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ fought Covington at UFC 245. In the fifth round, the fight was recorded as a KO/TKO win for Usman after he allegedly broke Colby’s jaw. Even though Covington denies this, it was clearly visible after a brutal punch from Usman.

Covington is pining for a rematch ever since and was also present at UFC 261. Depending on what unravels at UFC 263, it may confirm if Colby will finally get his rematch with Usman or not.
