UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman dominated Jorge Masvidal last year at UFC 251. It seems Usman was not happy with last year’s win and thought he could do better. With that note, he appeared in a rematch against his rival Masvidal at UFC 262.
Last night Usman was more violent than his first meet-up with the Gamebred. The Nigerian Nightmare won the bout in just two rounds via thunderous right hand. The force from Usman indicates that he has been growing his ability and waiting for the rematch.
Further, the 33-year-old declared himself as the best in the world. “With my fundamentals, I am the pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet right now,” Usman said in a post-bout interview.
However, Usman credited his longtime rival Jorge for his support. “Been a while since I’ve been extremely nervous for a fight. But he elevated me. He made me go to the workshop and sharpen all my tools to put on a performance like that,” Usman thanked his opponent. As a cherry over the icing, he also thanked his father for coming to the venue.

Saturday’s title defense was very emotional for Usman. He put the welterweight belt on his father, Muhammad, who attended a venue for the first time to see Usman’s fight. Muhammad was in jail for approximately ten years due to conviction on fraud charges. That being said, it was indeed an auspicious moment for the Nigerian American.
With last night’s knockout, Usman completed his four straight title defense and 4th straight UFC victory. Presently, Usman has the second-longest winning streak in UFC history, and he is certainly looking for more.
