Jon Jones Gives a Damn Fighting Francis Ngannou or Derrick Lewis, Goal is to Become ‘Heavyweight Champion’

Jon Jones is growing increasingly confident about his fight with Francis Ngannou. In a recent interview, the former light heavyweight champ looked optimistic about the situation.

The journey has been tough for Jones. After vacating his light heavyweight title, he has yet to make his debut in the heavyweight division. Moreover, the fighter has been in constant conflict with the UFC over his contract.

However, with Francis Ngannou also sympathizing with Jon over the situation, things could soon change. Both fighters are of the opinion that a mega-fight like this is deserving of a ‘mega pay’ for both.

Previously, Dana White mentioned that Derrick Lewis was best suited to fight Ngannou next. As a result, Jones became enraged and went on a bit of a rant on Twitter. In a (deleted) series of tweets, Jon even went as far as begging the UFC to release him.

As things stand, the former light heavyweight champ believes the UFC will make the right call. He feels it is one of the biggest fights of this generation. “I think it’s gonna happen,” he expressed.

Is Jon Jones Getting His Fight

Time and again, Jon Jones has reiterated the wish to fight Ngannou. Although he hasn’t ruled out a fight against Derrick Lewis either, Ngannou remains the prime target. ‘Bones’ is in no hurry to fight and is currently focussing on getting in fighting shape.

Although Jones was promised the winner of Miocic V Ngannou 2, it seemed for a while that things had fallen through with the UFC. Jones last fought in February 2020, winning a unanimous decision over Dominick Reyes to defend the UFC Light Heavyweight title for the 11th time.

Whilst Jones wants to fight Ngannou, he has revealed that he is willing to wait for it. He does not mind being Ngannou’s third or fourth title defense either. He has clarified that his sole target is to claim the heavyweight title and nothing else.
