Number 11 UFC lightweight fighter Islam Makhachev prioritizes a title fight over money. On the other hand, Dustin Poirier seems to prefer money over a title bout.

With the 19-1 record, Makhachev is currently holding the seven-winning streak. After his recent win over Drew Dober, the MMA community sees Khabib Nurmagomedov’s shadow in him.

Makhachev recently appeared in an interview with RT Sport MMA, where he discussed numerous factors. The interviewer asked him if he had to choose between a title fight and a money fight, what would he choose?

Islam Makhachev put more value on the title over money, and conveyed, “I’d definitely pick a title fight, because I never had that chance.” Further, the 29-year-old Russian fighter thinks Dustin Poirier emphasizes money over a title shot. “Maybe because Poirier already fought for the title he is thinking more about money,” Makhachev about his assumption.

Poirier’s next trilogy fight against McGregor will be more of a money shot than the title. It is because he already won over the Notorious, and he could have denied a rematch.

Islam Makhachev is interested to fight on July 10

Makhachev thinks his last fight at UFC 259 was under a compact fight card, and due to that, he is looking forward to fighting on July 10 at McGregor vs. Poirier trilogy.

Makhachev is pretty sure that July 10’s fight card will provide him a good opportunity to prove himself as a title contender. “It will be a huge card, I just fought on a stacked card, and when there is a hype around the event, that’s a plus for the fighter,” Islam explained why he would love to fight on July 10.

So far, Islam Makhachev does not have any scheduled fight, but he will prefer to fight Tony Ferguson
