Gregor Gillespie Reacts to Conor McGregor’s “Fisherman Pinch” After UFC Vegas 26 Succession

Gregor Gillespie meets with the press following his win over Diego Ferreira during the UFC Fight Night Vegas 26 in May 08, 2021, at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, NV..

Gregor Gillespie made his return to the Octagon after nearly two years. Additionally, Gillespie had an interesting response for Conor McGregor in his post-fight conference.

After a crazy start to the match, Gregor was finally able to gain control over Diego Ferreira. ‘The Gift’ began dominating in the second round with his wrestling and grappling after a nervous end to the first one. Finally, Gillespie wore out Diego and finished him off with a ground and pound in the second round itself.

Following his victory over Diego, Gregor called himself the ‘best fisherman’ among other things. Interestingly, this caught the attention of Conor McGregor, who then took to Twitter. “This Gregor Gillespie cat is no way in hell the best fisherman in MMA”.

In his response, Gillespie had a very interesting proposal. “We could do a couple different things, I guess. If he wants to settle that score first we can definitely do a fish-off and then if I win, we can do a fight-off. How’s that sound?”

Gillespie admits that it was very flattering to have Conor McGregor’s attention. “There’s absolutely zero chance he’s a better fisherman than me, no one is”. Gillespie also received responses from other fighters including Islam Makhachev.

Who Will Gregor Gillespie Fight Next?

Whilst it seems that ‘The Gift’ is keen on a contest with Conor, he will have to wait his turn. Currently, Conor is preparing for his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier. After succumbing to a loss in the UFC 257 rematch, ‘The Notorious’ will be aware of what a defeat could mean for his legacy.

If he does win, Conor will be looking to string a few wins for a potential title shot. Moreover, Michael Chandler has also said that he wishes to fight McGregor after claiming the lightweight title at UFC 262. As such, Gilesspie may need to look elsewhere for his next fight.

However, a potential fight with Islam Makhachev could be on the cards. Previously, the Russian was left unsuccessful in his attempts to find a fight after RDA allegedly pulled out. Hence, the UFC could capitalize on this situation and pit Makhachev against Gillespie.
