Frustrated Jon Jones shouts out at UFC “for treating like sh**t” and calls for immediate release!

Former UFC light heavyweight champion,  Jon Jones took to Twitter on Monday requesting his release. Jones expressed his displeasure over his current contract situation with the UFC.

A day after saying there was “still time for the UFC to do the right thing,” it seems that Jones did not get his way. Jones has been pining for a shot at the Heavyweight belt for quite some time now.

“Please just cut me already,” Jones wrote. However, the likelihood of UFC officials doing that seems slim as Jones is currently sitting at No. 1 in the UFC Men’s pound-for-pound rankings.

UFC President Dana White mentioned in a recent Press Conference that “Derrick Lewis is the fight to make.” This caused Jones to go on a bit of a rant and call White’s tactics a ‘huge slap in the face’ as he questioned whether he was respected enough by the promotion.

You would rather have me around and treat me like sh*t,” Jones wrote. He has since deleted the messages. However, it seems there is still a long way to go for Jones to get the contract he wants.

Troubling Times for Jon Jones

After having been promised a fight with either Stipe Miocic or Francis Ngannou, there is a possibility he could end up facing neither. With the UFC not budging in their stance, Jones could be left with no choice but to ask to be released.

I quit the light heavyweight division, literally gained a massive amount of weight. And now people are saying I’m afraid? “Everyone but me claiming that I’m afraid. All I asked was to get paid.” Clearly, he feels misunderstood and insulted by the UFC’s actions.

Jones last fought in February 2020, winning a unanimous decision over Dominick Reyes to defend the UFC Light Heavyweight title for the 11th time.

He later vacated the belt with plans to lift Heavyweight gold but has yet to debut in the weight class. Currently, he’s being touted by fans for a fight with the reigning champion, Francis Ngannou.

Ngannou, who recently became the new Heavyweight champion, would be open to fighting Jones. Even though it is also what Jones wants, it seems that the UFC’s actions could see the fight fall through.
