Pierre Gasly is currently competing in Formula One under the French flag. The 25-year-old is a 2016 GP2 Series Champion and the runner-up in the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 Series. With his exceptional talent, the racer has impressed many. The racer has also impressed Franz Tost, the team boss of the Scuderia AlphaTauri Formula One team. According to the 65-year-old Australian, Gasly is “one of the strongest drivers in F1 nowadays”.
Developing with Increasing Success
Gasly came back to the team midway during the 2019 campaign. He returned as a young driver, void of confidence after a rough spell at the Red Bull alongside Max Verstappen.
Post the demotion, the French racer has kept on developing with increasing success. The racer finished P2 at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix, then took his first career F1 win at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix on AlphaTauri’s home turf. Now, Tost has his eyes on Gasly as a star power of his team, along with that helping Yuki Tsunoda to develop.
“I reckon Pierre is one of the strongest drivers in F1 nowadays. Pierre’s good technical understanding allows him to get the best out of the car,” -Franz Tost at the launch of AlphaTauri’s 2021 challenger.
Tost feels that Gasly’s experience and familiarity with procedures and the team’s way of working will make him an excellent teacher and help Yuki. The team Boss has expectations from the French driver. Moreover, winning last year at Monza, Gasly is expected to be very successful this season if provided a competitive car.
With high hopes, Tost also looks forward to Tsunoda. The Honda-backed racer showed his ability to adapt quickly to a new category throughout his career. Also, Yuki finished third in the F2 championship and did a fantastic job. The Japanese racer won races and carried out many impressive overtaking skills.
The team Boss thinks that the pair of Yuki and Gasly is the best. Undoubtedly, they decided to go for Pierre and Yuki in 2021 as Scuderia AlphaTauri’s philosophy is still to give talented young drivers from the Red Bull Junior Programme an opportunity to step up to F1 and to educate them.
