UFC President Dana White confirmed earlier this week that Derrick Lewis will be Francis Ngannou’s next fight. Additionally, he also reveals that a potential fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic is also in the works.
Previously, Jones saw his want for a “mega pay” fight with Francis Ngannou turned down. The UFC believes that Jones is yet to prove himself a worthy title contender after just having moved up to the division. As such, it seems that ‘Bones ‘ will get the chance to prove his worth against Stipe Miocic.
Speaking about the potential matchup, Lewis feels that Jones can beat Stipe Miocic. “I believe that’s more of an easier matchup for Jones than for me or for Francis”, says Lewis. Derrick indicates that he and Ngannou are capable of giving Jones a better fight than the former heavyweight champ.
“I believe Jon would beat Stipe,” adds Lewis. ‘The Black Beast’ is the only active loss of Francis Ngannou’s career and also the No.1 contender for the title. As such, he is happy that his proposed fight with Ngannou is picking up pace.
Recently, Jon has been bulking up and getting adjusted to his new weight. Similarly, Stipe Miocic is also in the same phase, as he starts to prepare for his comeback. UFC President Dana White believes that Jones vs. Stipe would be the best matchup to settle which of the two great fighters will get the shot at the title next.
Can Jon Jones beat Stipe Miocic?
Jones (26-1), the UFC’s former light heavyweight champion, vacated his belt following a controversial win over Dominick Reyes at UFC 247. Moreover, Jones has been “iffy” in his past few fights, leading many to question his greatness. As a result, Dana White feels that Jones needs to prove himself before he can make a bid for the heavyweight title.
On the other hand, Stipe Miocic has been working on his 250lbs shape, indicating that he could be coming back for a shot at Ngannou. After beating Ngannou the first time around, Stipe lost to him at UFC 260, claiming a smaller shape as his disadvantage.
With both fighters wanting to settle scores with Ngannou, a matchup between them feels like a fairly plausible idea. Moreover, fans have been going into a spiral at the possibility of an ‘MMA GOAT’ vs. ‘Heavyweight GOAT’ matchup.
