Charles Oliveira Invites Conor McGregor For a Fight in Brazil

Charles Oliveira of Brazil reacts as UFC President Dana White places the UFC lightweight championship belt around his waist after defeating Michael Chandler at Toyota Center on May 15, 2021 in Houston, Texas.

Charles Oliveira is on top of the world after becoming the new lightweight champion of the UFC. Moreover, Oliveira is eyeing a return to his native Brazil for his first title defense.

‘Do Bronx’ was victorious after a very intense fight against Michael Chandler. Although it seemed that Charles could seemingly lose the bout after the first round, he came out all guns blazing in the second. Eventually, Oliveira was successful and won against Chandler via KO/TKO.

Moreover, Olivera gave an interesting response to Conor McGregor’s tweet in his post-fight conference. “Conor, since you’re so tough: First of all, you beat Dustin, and then you come over to Brazil and I’m going to put you on your a**,” he says. Whilst he denied it at first, Charles couldn’t help imply that he wants to fight Conor next.

“First he’s got to get past Dustin. He’s one of these guys that just talks a lot. He’s got to beat Dustin first,” he adds. However, Oliveira insists that now he will simply sit back and let the division unfold. As such, he believes that his managers will make the calls regarding his next fight when it’s the right time.

Naturally, the winner of McGregor vs. Poirier 3 will be a contender for the title. However, Dana White is keen to let the fights play out. With fighters like Justin Gaethje and Beneil Dariush also in the running, the lightweight division is looking very exciting right now.

Will Charles Oliveira Fight Conor McGregor?

Currently, Conor McGregor is preparing for his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier on July 10 at UFC 264. After beating Poirier at UFC 178, ‘The Notorious’ succumbed to a KO/TKO loss in the UFC 257 rematch. As a result, Conor will be keen not to lose, as it would tarnish his legacy as one of the UFC’s greatest.

Following this, Conor will most likely call for a title shot against Oliveira. Whilst Conor will be undeniable, he must beat Dustin Poirier first. On the other hand, Justin Gaethje, Beneil Dariush, and a respectable Michael Chandler will also be clawing their way towards the title shot in the meantime.

With a lot of uncertainty in the lightweight division, the UFC and Dana White will have to make some very big decisions. However, Charles Oliveira will be enjoying his break, after working 11 years to win the lightweight title.
