Beneil Dariush ‘surprised’ after Tony Ferguson’s Press Conference Trash Talk

Beneil Dariush talks aout the importance of sparring partners.

Beneil Dariush had an interesting take on the UFC 262 Press Conference. Moreover, Dariush explains what went through his head during a heated exchange with Tony Ferguson.

Previously, Dariush admits he was a little bit surprised that the matchup with Ferguson came to fruition. Following his win over Diego Ferreira at UFC Fight Night 184 in February, Dariush asked for a big-name fight at 155 pounds. Beneil was ecstatic to see Ferguson taking up the challenge.

“Speaking about the people that I like and people that I love, that’s not okay. That’s where that came from, cause I was a bit surprised too”. After a very somber Face-Off, things went hostile between the pair within the blink of an eye. Fortunately, that animosity did not continue over to the Face-Off at the official weigh-in.

During the Press Conference, Tony was answering a question regarding Khabib Nurmagomedov. Subsequently, Dariush chimed in, insisting that Tony should be more focused on the Iranian rather than the retired champion. Naturally, Tony took offense to this and in return slammed him for helping Justin Gaethje prepare against Khabib for UFC 254.

Additionally, Tony mocked Dariush’s sessions with high-level, well-known UFC athletes, whether it’s Gaethje or Kings MMA coach Rafael Cordeiro. “Look, at Kings MMA you have how many UFC fighters training with you? It was the same thing on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ when they all went against me. You know what the f*ck happened with them.”

Can Beneil Dariush Win Against Tony Ferguson?

Beneil Dariush isn’t writing off Tony Ferguson, despite a pair of tough losses for the former UFC interim lightweight champion. Previously, ‘El Cucuy’ faced one-sided losses to Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje. As such, Ferguson’s age (37) has also raised questions over the former interim champion’s abilities.

On the other hand, Dariush is on a six-fight winning streak following a victory over Diego Ferreira. As a result, he will be looking to further elevate his name into the conversation for a championship opportunity. Hence, he will be aware of Ferguson’s threat and expect the best version of the Mexican.

If he wins, Dariush will look to challenge Justin Gaethje or the winner of McGregor vs. Poirier 3. If Dariush is to make a case for himself as a title contender, his next two results will be key.
