Anderson Silva is retiring from MMA and will no longer take part in any promotion events. Moreover, Silva will now take up boxing, starting with a fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in New Mexico.
Following his departure from the UFC, Silva opened up about his discontentment over the UFC’s business procedures. As such, he also shares his opinion on the ongoing saga of Oscar De La Hoya’s boxing return. Recently, Georges St. Pierre revealed plans to box De La Hoya, which were subsequently dismissed by the UFC.
“I think it no make sense, especially because Georges did a lot for the sport, especially for UFC,” says Silva while talking to media during an open workout before his boxing bout with Chavez Jr. “Why you hold the guy? This no makes sense…
“Georges is a fighter. You can’t hold a fighter. It’s the same if you take the lion in the jungle and put him inside the cage. The lion is going to die. You can’t do that. Nobody can do that. This makes no sense. This is terrible, terrible. Completely terrible,” he adds.
Whilst Anderson Silva is able to compete outside the UFC following his retirement, the same cannot be said for GSP. Unfortunately for the Canadian, he is still under contract by the UFC even though he is retired. As such, this prevents him from fighting at other promotions such as Triller Fight Club, etc.

Why Does Anderson Silva not like the UFC anymore?
Anderson Silva and the UFC did not part on the best of terms. Silva’s last fight against Uriah Hall was promoted as his last fight, even though ‘The Spider’ had not made any such claims from his side. Moreover, Silva received criticism from Dana White in his post-fight press conference.

Hence, Anderson is very disapproving of how the UFC is treating GSP. With both fighters considered within the GOAT category, Silva feels that they deserve better and the ability to choose where they take their business when they want.
“First of all, I think when you do your job, especially fight in the level me and Georges do it, people need to respect,” Silva said. “Georges worked hard to make a lot of things for UFC. It makes no sense, Dana White holding Georges St-Pierre”. However, Silva, being the gentleman he is still respects the UFC and is grateful for all they’ve done for him.
