Islam Makhachev indicates that the UFC world will see a new champ in the lightweight division. Khabib Nurmagomedov is retired, and no fighter is worthy enough to take his position. But Makhachev is pretty confident that he will be the torchbearer for Khabib.

The Russian is fearless with his six-fight win streak in the UFC and will make his long-awaited return after more than a year. The fight against Drew Dober at UFC 259 will be Makhachev’s first fight since September 2019.

Why Islam Makhachev is optimistic?

A fellow ‘Eagle’, Makhachev, who has an 18-1 professional MMA record, bows to Nurmagomedov as a mentor. Besides, Nurmagomedov’s coach Javier Mendez is also training him for the past several years. The Dagestani fighter has spent much of his time under Nurmagomedov and Mendez’s shadow. And he sees a new era as Khabib endorsed him as one of the best fighters of UFC. On a related note, Mendez is also tipping him to become a champion.

Islam Makhachev got all his confidence from his team, and he said“I think after this fight, if I finish Drew, everything is going to change.” However, the UFC community and the rivals should consider this as an alarm. “It’s going to be a seven-fight win streak and not a lot of people have a win streak like this. The next [opponent] will maybe be top five, top 10, and I’m going to show my skills,” Islam Conveys. It seems Makhachev has already tallied the upcoming fight as a win.

A win at UFC Apex will lift Makhachev’s ranking, and he is currently ranked at No 14 in the lightweight division. So, the Victory will definitely change many things as well as UFC’s next PPV fights.

There is no doubt, Makhachev is tough and decisive, and the winning possibilities are heavy towards Makhachev.
