Originally a titular contest between the 170-pound monarch, Kamaru Usman, and former interim champion, Colby Covington, was to serve as the stellar, but the negotiations stalled, forcing the promotion to seek a new fight.
According to White, there will be no headline fights in the event and he mentioned that a special belt will be created that will be given to the winner to crown the first BMF.
Masvidal comes from achieving the fastest knockout in the history of the UFC (00:05) by knocking out Ben Askren at UFC 239, while Diaz made his return to the Octagon after three years obtaining a unanimous decision on Anthony Pettis in the co-star of UFC 241.
