Tyron Woodley recently gave an interview to The Schmo which aired on his YouTube channel. Woodley opened up his views on the upcoming welterweight championship fight between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns. He previously fought these two fighters and lost to both of them. Further, Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns will fight at UFC 258 for the welterweight title.
In the interview, Woodley also talked about the Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren boxing fight and revealed that he will support Ben Askren as they have been a long-time friend and teammate. Apart from these bouts, Woodley also spoke about the overall MMA conditions.
Tyron Woodley will be in Ben Askren’s corner
Askren is not getting enough chances in the MMA world as he is not really known for his striking. However, Woodley believed in Askren and mentioned some facets that made Askren a championship-caliber fighter. To explain Ben Askren’s capability, Woodley said,
“Ben has very dumpy power, that’s the best way I can explain it. When he punches, it’s not like a super-fast Mayweather type stuff but when he hits you like ‘Damn, that fu**ing kinda hurt a little bit…”
Woodley will be on the stage to support his mate, Askren. However, he is going to visit Ben a few days before the fight as he wants to help Ben in practice.
Having Woodley in the practice camp as well as corner will be a remarkable confidence lift for Ben Askren. Askren will be needed that assertiveness to fight against Paul as his undefeated streak ended abruptly in his last fight.
On the other hand, if Woodley joins the practice camp, Askren may help him for his next UFC fight against Vicente Luque on March 27 this year. In their early days, both of them worked on each other’s skill set, and they understand each other. So, taking Ben Askren’s corner will be helpful for both men.
