How Tommy Fury Became Boxing Sensation Jake Paul’s Next Opponent?

Jake Paul Next opponent

Fans of the Boxing world once again have something to look forward to before the end of the year. In one of the more surprising turnarounds of this year, Jake Paul will be coming out of his short retirement. As such we will now see Jake Paul take on his next opponent, Tommy Fury, an up-and-coming reality television star turned professional boxer.

After a controversial split-decision win against Tyron Woodley earlier this year, Jake announced some time off from boxing. However, Woodley was at it again, trying to drum up attention for a rematch. All of sudden, the world was looking to Jake Paul again. Undeniably, the former YouTube and Disney star has revolutionized the boxing world.

Paul began making headlines by knocking out fellow YouTubers Dejii and AnEsonGib. After, he moved on to bigger challenges in a Basketball player, Nate Robinson, and then UFC fighter, Ben Askren.  As time went on the public began slowly accepting Paul as a legitimate fighter. But, he had to keep pushing the boundaries and improving the level of his opposition.

Why pick a fight with Tommy Fury?

And so, the time came for Jake to look for a new opponent. A new test, if you will. Somebody who was bigger, tougher, and better than all of his opponents before. Luckily for Jake, he saw the perfect opportunity when Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder took the world by storm in a trilogy fight for the ages. Undoubtedly, it was the biggest boxing event of the year.

Here, Jake felt as though he can capitalize on Tyson Fury’s hype and success by challenging his half-brother, Tommy Fury to a fight. Sure, Jake could have picked anyone from a plethora of opponents. We all know how beef was building between Paul and several others, including Conor McGregor, Tyron Woodley, Canelo Alvarez, and more. So why Tommy Fury? Well, for one, he’s actually a boxer. Secondly, he’s the half-brother of Boxing superstar Tyson Fury and three, the timing is literally perfect.

Coincidentally, Tommy Fury also fought on the undercard of the Paul vs Woodley event in August this year. Even more interestingly, Fury and Paul came together for a fiery interaction backstage after their respective fights. And so we can say, purpose met opportunity and now we are set for a showdown between the two young boxers on December 18, at the Amelie Arena in Tampa, Florida.

Tommy Fury is former reality television, Love Island star who is also the half-brother of Tyson Fury. Tommy has been gradually building his resume as a professional boxer. As such, Fury’s boxing record currently reads 7 fights, 7 wins, with 4 wins coming by way of knockout and the rest via decision. Hence, we can say that Tommy has made a satisfactory start to his boxing career.

Since he is Jake Paul’s most hated and toughest opponent yet, there are some special conditions for him. Paul will be paying $500K extra from his purse on top of the $1 million purse if Fury wins. On the other hand, if Fury loses, he will need to change his name legally to “Tommy Fumble” at least for one year. Further, Fury will also need to change his social media account names within 24 hours of the loss. Also, he will have to attend the post-fight conference with his new name.

With just about two weeks left for the fight, tensions are at an all-time high. After an explosive showing from the Fury family at both the Press Conferences, a lot of people will be having high expectations from the British fighter. Will he fail or will he prevail? Only time will tell.
