Everyone knows that the main purpose of Conor McGregor is to recover the UFC World Lightweight Championship. That’s why everyone was surprised to discover that the next Irish fight will be at 170 pounds against Donald Cerrone. Meanwhile, he has also been fighting at 155 pounds lately. But now we know the reason, we know why “The Notorious” is rising.

Conor McGregor returns at 170 pounds

Dana White recently explained it to The Mirror.

“Conor will play his new fight at 170 pounds. Mainly because he doesn’t want to have to cut to 155. He and Cerrone have fought before in 170. He hopes that if he defeats Cerrone and everything happens as he should, he can fight with Khabib [Nurmagomedov] as soon as possible.”

The Irishman knows what it is to fight in light weight and also in welterweight. And he chose this second category to make his return to the octagon. Bearing in mind that if he succeeds he will come back down for a starting opportunity. He doesn’t want to force his body so much since it’s not a championship match.
