The ambition of Maverick Vinales was won the main podium at the San Marino GP last weekend but it failed because of the problem of Yamaha YZR Mi. What really happened?
It turned out that the iron horse tire grip of the Yamaha rider was missing grip. As a result, he had difficulty mastering the motorbike. In fact, teammate Valentino Rossi was very confident that he could get the most out of the race.
Vinales does have high confidence before the race takes place. Moreover, he started the race in pole position. Unfortunately, the Spanish rider was having difficulty since the first lap and slipped to third position after the motor was driven by a sudden loss of tire grip.
After that incident, Vinales had a hard time chasing the two riders in front of him, namely Marc Marquez and Fabio Quartararo who ultimately had to settle for ending the race on the third podium.
After the race, he was very upset with the problems that befell his motorbike because he actually had a chance to win his second this season. “When there were only three laps left in the race, I had mobilized all my abilities. But, I lost my front tire at the 10th corner, “said Vinales, reported by Crash.
“We are trying to remain calm and confident that one day we will again get a chance to win. If we don’t lose grip, I think we will be able to compete for first place, “he said.
Although disappointed, Vinales remained satisfied because he could return to the podium for the fourth time in the last six races, including his victory at Assen. This result also shows that he has found better consistency with his motorcycle. Now, Vinales remains in fifth position in the MotoGP standings with 134 points or five points in front of his team mate, Valentino Rossi.
“We are getting closer and consistency is the most important because the goal is to get on the podium. The four podiums in the last six races are very important to us, a circuit where I usually struggle because of a very low grip. All Yamaha racers have improved. But, we must keep trying to be at the highest point, “he explained.
Team Director Massimo Meregalli said his team had struggled to the maximum so that the drivers could win at Misano. Moreover, Vinales always showed it during training and became the fastest in the qualifying session. Unfortunately, the speed of the motor did not continue during the race.
Even so, Meregalli was quite happy to be able to put the racer on the podium. Moreover, he felt Yamaha was on the right track in competing in the front row, especially with Rossi who successfully completed the race in fourth position. Therefore, he hopes his team can get back up and get better results when the race takes place at the Aragon GP, this weekend.
“We really hope to put him (Rossi) on the podium, especially in front of his fans. He also almost got it in Austria and England. We have to continue working. Because, our goal is to make both racers fight for wins and podiums. We have another chance. Now, we focus on Aragon, “he said.
