Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta won his first ATP title in more than two years on Sunday after coming back from a set against Alexander Bublik 6-7(5), 6-4 and 7-6(3) in the final of the Chengdu Open in China.
World No. 63 Carreno Busta resisted 31 aces from his 1.96m Kazakh opponent and lifted his fourth ATP title after just over two hours.
Both players had total control over their games at serving in the final set and did not allow a single breakpoint before Carreno took a 5-1 advantage in the tie-break and managed to seal the victory with a backhand ball.
It was Carreno’s first title since he won the Estoril Open in 2017.
Bublik, 22, enjoyed an impressive race in Chengdu this week, recording surprise victories over American Taylor Fritz and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov to reach his second ATP final of the season.
