Novak Djokovic, the current World No.1 talks about the younger players who will dominate the sport in the coming years.
Djokovic has been on the top spot for about 320 weeks, setting a record for the longest period for a player at ATP Rank 1. Further, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, along with the Serb, have been the best in tennis. The trio is also known as the “Big Three”.
However, the young generation is being a threat to the trio. As many new players have already won against the “Big Three”. Many sports pundits claim soon the new generation will take the reins of tennis from the trio.

Even Djokovic acknowledged the potential of the young players and reported the name of six such players, “These guys are playing every week more or less. There are guys like Tsitsipas, Zverev, Matteo Berrettini [and] Andrey Rublev that are winning against all of us and playing a lot and building their ranking points.”
“Medvedev as well, of course, [is] challenging for the top spots. Dominic Thiem, of course, has been there for many years. It’s inevitable that it’s going to happen. The change in the [FedEx ATP] Rankings is coming. Whether it’s going to happen in a month or a year or whatever, I don’t know.” Further added the Serbian.
What is next for Novak Djokovic?
The 33-year-old has already claimed some major achievements this year, like winning his ninth Australian Open title. Further being the ATP Rank 1 for 320 weeks, breaking the record of Roger’s 310 weeks.
Since the Grand Slam in Australia, Djokovic failed to make a mark at Monte-Carlo and hometown Serbia Open. Therefore, the Serbian maestro went on a small break to prepare himself and work on his form.

Djokovic needs to pull up his socks to protect the throne of ‘World No.1’ as the young generation and the old-time rival Rafael Nadal is a constant threat. Daniil Medvedev and Nadal are just 1683 and 1833 points away from claiming the top spot.
Novak Djokovic is the top seed in the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, where he will face the American Taylor Fritz in the first round. Further, Nadal and Medvedev are the second and third seed in the tournament, respectively. Further, many next-generation players are also there in the tournament, thus Djokovic needs to be careful.
