In the post-match interview, Dominic Thiem conveyed, “I was down all the time. I lost the first set and then [in the] second [set] I was a breakdown. [In the] tie-break, I was 4/5 down. So until that point, 5/5, I was down all the match.”

“So I told myself, ‘Well, this is the chance now to go up for the first time in the whole match. It’s also if I win the point, it’s a chance to win the set’. That’s what went through my mind. Luckily I took it,” the Austrian further stated.

The fourth seed Thiem will now face the Italian Lorenzo Sonego in the next round. The Austrian has previously faced Sonego in the 250 circuit of Kitzbühel, where Thiem won against the Italian.

Many pundits and fans believe the Austrian will make his way past the Italian. However, Dominic Thiem shouldn’t be overconfident and need to pull up his socks, as the top three players- Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Daniil Medvedev are also present in the Italian tournament.
