Daniil Medvedev Wants to Take On “25-Years-Old” Version of Roger Federer

Daniil Medvedev wants to challenge the '25-year-old' Roger Federer.

Daniil Medvedev, the Russian maestro desires to take on the Former World No.1 Roger Federer when he was in his prime.

The 25-year-old first went against Federer in the 1000 circuit at Shanghai in 2018, where Daniil lost to the Swiss superstar. Later Daniil again faced the Swiss at Basel and Miami. However, the Russian again failed to defeat Fed.

The Russian might again face Roger at the Roland Garros this year. However, Medvedev expects to defeat Federer in the Grand Slam but it won’t be as challenging as when the Swiss was 25-years-old.

Medvedev reported, “When I played against Roger in 2018 and 2019, I was a worse player than now, which doesn’t mean anything. If I beat him now, it wouldn’t be the same as when he was 25. He remains a fantastic player and an idol to everyone.”

The Russian is currently at number three on the ATP Rankings and competing with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic for the top spot. Daniil lost to the present World No.1 at the 2021 Australian Open finals. However, Medvedev won his first title of this season at the Open 13 and currently, he’s playing in the Madrid Open. The 25-year-old will face Cristian Garin in the R16 at the 1000 masters in Madrid.

Meanwhile, Federer last took part in the Doha Open, where he made a comeback after a single-year break because of injuries. However, Federer failed to make his mark at the Doha tournament and went home to rest his body and get back his form for the upcoming Roland Garros.

Daniil Medvedev plans to begin his preparations for the 2021 French Grand Slam after the Mutua Madrid Open. As the Russian prodigy might have to face Roger Federer and also the other two players of ‘Big Three’.
