Cori Gauff Reveals an ‘Anime Hero’ that Helps Her Breathing Technique on Court

Tokyo Olympics: COVID-19 Chaos Continues Coco Gauff Withdraws After Her Tests

Cori Gauff, the American professional after reaching the quarter-finals of the Italian Open, reveals a secret breathing technique she learned from an ‘anime hero’. This technique helped to improve her performance.

The 17-year-old faced the Belarusian star, Aryna Sabalenka, in the round of 16 at the Italian Premier 5 event. Gauff won against Sabalenka with a score of  7-5, 6-3.

Coco will face World No.1, Ashleigh Barty, in the quarter-finals and thus she would need a secret weapon to defeat the Aussie. Therefore, the American is a huge anime fan and claims to learn a special breathing technique from Tanjiro Kamado, the protagonist of the anime- Demon Slayer. The show is a big hit not only in Japan but throughout the world, and now it might help the young prodigy to win against Barty.

Cori Gauff reported about Tanjiro in a recent interview, “The main character, Tanjiro, has this breathing technique right before he fights. When I get nervous, I notice that slowing down my breathing helps me a lot.”

“At least five to 10 times it was in my head, ‘you gotta do the total concentration breathing that Tanjiro does’,” she further added to her statement.

The American has the potential to become a great player in the future. The WTA even recognized her as the youngest player to rank in the top  100. The youngster still hasn’t got a title in her professional career, but she still got a long way ahead of her.

Gauff needs to gear up to face Barty, who won her previous round against Veronika Kudermetova with a straight-set. However, the American seems pretty confident to play against the Australian maestro.

We might witness a great battle between World No. 35, Cori ‘Coco’ Gauff, and the Australian veteran. However, Gauff needs to pull up her socks to defeat Barty, as she might be a tough hurdle to reach the semi-finals.
