The French coach Patrick Mouratoglou shares the secret of becoming the ‘Number One’ on the sport that wanting is not enough to achieve the feat.
The 50-year-old trainer is known to train the former World No.1, Serena Williams. Further, he also coaches young prodigies like Stefanos Tsitsipas and Cori ‘Coco’ Gauff.
Every player wants to become the best player and claim the throne of ‘Number One’. However, the journey isn’t easy as Mouratoglou claims you have to believe in yourself that you can reach the peak.
In a recent interview, Patrick Mouratoglou commented, “Everyone wants to be number one, but few want to be number one. To be able to want it, you must first believe in it. 99% of players want it but don’t believe it. Therefore, they don’t do what it takes to become number one every day. This is because, within them, they do not believe in it enough.”
Novak Djokovic is currently dominating the sport in the men’s division. Further, he made a record of being the World No.1 for 321 weeks, breaking Roger Federer’s record of 310 weeks. Meanwhile, Ashleigh Barty is the present WTA Number One.
Many sports pundits and speculates Mouratoglou’s young students like Tsitsipas and Gauff will take the top spot in the coming years. Both the young prodigies showcased some phenomenal performance this year. Tsitsipas claimed the Monte-Carlo Masters in 2021. While Coco is the youngest player to take place in the Top 100.
