Spain and Argentina will play in the final of the 2019 World Basketball Championship, which will take place on Sunday in Beijing, after defeating Australia and France, respectively, in the semifinals.
The Spanish national team won by 95-88 after two extra times in a match full of excitement, in which Marc Gasol dazzled and scored 33 points and Ricky Rubio contributed 12 assists in Spain’s first semi-final since winning the tournament in 2006.
Argentina beat France 80-66 in a match in which the Argentine player Luis Scola stood out, with 28 points and 13 rebounds, reserving a place for the South American team in the World Cup final, the first since 2002 for the “Argentina”.
In the quarter-finals, France beat favorites and reigning champions the USA, but could not advance to the final as a power forward Rudy Gobert had problems and shots from beyond the area did not enter.
Frank Ntilikina was the French top scorer with 16 points and Louis Labeyrie scored eight points but left the basket unprotected for the aggressive Argentine attack to take advantage.
Scola made the most of defensive errors, scoring ten points in the first quarter, then scored three of the four three pointers and made nine of the 10 free throws throughout the game in a dominant offensive performance.
