Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher had a lot to converse about Brighton Hove and Albion’s inability to finish a game strong. While talking on the Football daily talk show on February 23rd, 2021, he said, “Brighton dominate games, but in the end, they leave everything down to luck.”
Brighton maintained ball possession in all the games they have played so far. However, due to their lack of goals, they find themselves at the bottom of the table.
Brighton manager, Graham Potter, is under tremendous pressure to win games in the Premier League. Moreover, Brighton is just four points away from the relegation zone and can fall further down the line if the tally of losses increases.
Brighton has been applauded by Jamie Carragher for the high xG (Expected Goals) they possess in each game. Subsequently, they have scored twenty-six goals in twenty-five matches. The Seagulls, on average, has only scored one goal. This stat fortifies the need to create changes that can lead to goals.
Consequently, there is a dire need for a new creative midfielder and striker at the American Express Community stadium. At the end of the Premier League season on July 26th, 2020, Brighton had scored thirty-nine goals in thirty-eight games.
Gus Poyet: Graham Potter needs to motivate Brighton to score goals
The fifty-three-year-old Uruguayan international told Sky Sports, on February 23rd, 2021, “A player has to score the goal, but the motivation for them needs to come from their manager.”
Poyet believes the bond a team and their manager have needed to be fortuitous enough to know what their leader wishes for without instructions being passed on. Brighton and Graham Potter brought in Danny Welbeck after a few minutes in their game against Crystal Palace on February 23rd, 2021. The ex-Arsenal player-created chances by the dozen and had a few shots on goal himself.
Poyet appreciates the decision taken by Potter to bring in the Englishman. However, he feels that there should have been a more significant impact with players like Neal Maupay, Leondrao Trossand, and Danny Welbeck in the lineup.
