Roman Abramovich has not taken the book on Russian President Vladimir Putin too kindly. The Russian Businessman has been allegedly accused by the book’s author and Roman has exhibited his vexation towards it. The allegations insinuate Roman bought Chelsea on the say-so of Putin.
A book by the name of Putin’s people has alleged Roman Abramovich of buying the Stamford Bridge club on the orders of VVP, and the Russian entrepreneur has denied the allegations. The book written by Catherine Belton mentions a few key figures who allegedly helped Volodya built a Western presence.
Roman Abramovich has sued Miss Belton on the grounds of defamation. Furthermore, the book talks about supposed illegal activities at Chelsea F.C., which Roman vehemently denies.
In an interview on March 23rd, he said, “The contents of the book show Chelsea football club’s activities in a bad light, despite the good the club has done for the world. Defamatory claims made against me and the reasons behind my acquisition of Chelsea have made matters worse. My team and I have talked to the publishers of the book. We have provided them with the documents to show our standpoint.”
“However, it seems painfully clear that they wish for matters to be taken onto the legal platform. I do not wish to drag Chelsea’s name through the mud, so I avoided a legal battle. But, I need to do something now before the name and good acts done by Chelsea get forgotten” said Roman.
Roman Abramovich is keen on keeping his club away from the legal matter. Although Chelsea has released a statement that said, “We at Chelsea will not be commenting on the legal matters in light of the situation. Roman Abramovich has guided this club for many years, and we will give him our support until the end.”

Chelsea has not seen their owner negatively after the book was released worldwide, and they refuse to believe the stories told about their savior.
The tale of Abramovich and how he saved Chelsea
Once upon a time, Chelsea was a disappointment to their fans, and their owners (Ken Bates) did not have the funds to compete with the other teams in the EPL. Then a Russian knight in shining armor named Roman Abramovich showed up and paid enough bullion to Bates and bought Stamford Bridge from him in June 2003.
He spent a lot of money to make his club compete for the title. In just over a year, Chelsea were Premier League champions. They also played their first UEFA Champions League Semi-Final on April 27th, 2005, losing to Liverpool by a one-nil aggregate.
Though funds were never an issue for the Saratov native, he did a lot more for the club than just help of the monetary kind. Roman was instrumental in bringing many quality managers to Stamford Bridge. They, in turn, won the Russian trophies via his club’s exemplary performances.
Roman Abramovich adores his club, and that does not just mean the men’s team. He has high regard for the Chelsea women’s team and their progress in the WA FSL.
Roman Abramovich feels Chelsea women FC critical to the brand of Chelsea
The Russian has invested a lot into the men’s team. Nevertheless, he has not forgotten the women’s division at his club and has spent a considerable amount for the sake of their betterment as well.
Chelsea Women were formed after Roman took over the Blues, and they have won three doubles (2015, 2018, 2020) in the seventeen years they have existed at Stamford Bridge. They are the reigning champions in the FA WSL and follow the same ruthless model studied by their male counterparts.
In an interview on March 20th, 2021, Roman said, “Chelsea is not associated with just the men’s football team. We have many banners under the club, with the women’s team and the youth team holding prime importance as well.”
He then talked about women’s football in general as he said, “I do not understand why women’s football is not given much importance. I have invested a lot in my team’s women’s division.
It is a matter of principle for me, and I believe that women’s football has a lot of potential. I think more teams around the world should invest in their female squads, and I implore them to do so” said Abramovich.
Roman Abramovich is not a bad person, and his comments in favor of his club prove this. Therefore, Chelsea fans will now have to wait and see what will happen in the legal battle and support their owner and savior mentally.
