Hugo Lloris had his head down in shame after Tottenham lost to Dinamo Zagreb on March 18th, 2021. The loss meant that the Spurs would exit the Europa League. Tottenham was flying high in the round of 16 first leg against the Ukrainian side. Though, three goals from Miroslav Orisic assured victory for Modri and allowed them to advance to the Quarter-Finals.

In light of their two-one victory at White Hart Lane, Tottenham was confident of winning the second leg away at the Stadion Maksimir. Dinamo winger Orisic scored a hat-trick and miraculously saved his team. The loss at Zagreb brought tears to the eyes of Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho.

Hugo Lloris did not feel sadness, and as skipper of his team, he told the media what he thinks Tottenham should do to bounce back from the loss. In an interview on March 20th, 2021, he said, “The international break will be great for us as a team. We can all use the fresh air to rethink our strategies. The best thing we can do now is re-evaluate ourselves and learn to be better.”

He further stated that, “The lack of respect shown to our team-mates and the opponents came back to haunt us and we are solely at fault for that. We have all played in games where the results have been turned. It is a frequent occurrence in the game and this time we were unable to do that.”

Coincidentally, the Tottenham skipper lacked the empathy he displayed in the later stages of the interview at the beginning of it. English football legend Tony Cascarino particularly disliked the Frenchman calling his team ‘disgraceful.

Hugo Lloris blew his cap over the various errors displayed by his teammates in the game. He went on to call them disgraceful and made pointed remarks towards his manager and his teammates.

In light of the comments made by Lloris, Tony Cascarino pointed out to the thirty-four-year-old shot-stopper that he should never never abuse his team. In an interview on March 20th 2021, he said, “Comments like that will be appreciated by the fans, but in the dressings rom it is similar to mutiny. He has no right to say such things as he is part of the problem. Frankly, I do not see a future at Spurs for Hugo Lloris.”

The Italian-born former English footballer has played in the UK and understands the comings and goings in the life of another footballer. Tony is truly appalled by the lack of sportsmanship shown by the Frenchman.

Hugo Lloris needs to understand where his own mistakes are before he highlights the error. It would be fortunate for Tottenham if that can happen before they take on Aston Villa on March 22nd.

A loss at Villa would mean one of two things, Mourinho’s sacking or Lloris’s future placement on the Tottenham bench. The Frenchman will not hope for his future to hang in the balance, hence he will work to avoid that at any cost.
