“This is the player we want” Diego Simeone Remarks on Joao Felix’s Action against Chelsea

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone emphasized how important Joao Felix is for the Wanda Metropolitano. The Argentine stated Joao “is the player we want” in a post UCL match interview.

The Los Rojiblancos lost their second leg of the Champions League last 16 against Chelsea last Wednesday. Trailing 1-0 after the first leg, Atletico went to Stamford Bridge in the hopes of salvaging a win with Felix in their ranks.

Felix’s last minute effort against Mendy was too little too late for Atletico. The Madrid based club suffered a 3-0 defeat on aggregate subsequently and Simeone could not help but praise his player’s efforts.

The 50-year-old coach conveyed about the young Portuguese prodigy, “Tonight was Joao Felix’s best game for the club, this is the player we want.”

Diego had high hopes on the Atletico number seven which he expressed in the pre match conference at London. The Atletico coach stated, “Joao is a very important player, he started the season at a very high level, we need that player.

Joao Felix has joined the Los Indios on a €126M fees from SL Benfica, back in 2019. Ever since the Portuguese prodigy joined the Spanish club, his part in the club has been integral. There have been significant improvements in the attacking prowess the Madrid side has shown with Joao Felix.

The 21-year-old player managed to score ten goals and put up four assists for his team this season. Atletico are the current league leaders in La Liga and Felix played a big part in this achievement.
