Sergio Ramos set to return for key clash against Chelsea

Sergio Ramos set to return for key clash against Chelsea

Sergio Ramos remained absent in Real Madrid’s Semi-Final first-leg clash against Chelsea on 28th April 2021. Fortunately for Madrid, the Spanish defender will return when Los Blancos travels to Stamford Bridge on 6th May 2021.

Sergio Ramos, a key component of the Madrid defense, missed the S/F first leg due to a calf injury. But, his return for the second leg would delight Madridistas as they know how important Ramos is to them as a leader.

The Spaniards’ absence signified the weakness of Los Vikingos as Chelsea scored in the first half through Christian Pulisic.

Without Ramos at his side, Zinedine Zidane resorted to use Eder Militao, Raphael Varane and Nacho Fernandez in his defense. All three players held their own, but none could provide the assurance that Ramos would have given Madrid.

The Blues exploited Madrid’s weakness to their advantage by scoring the crucial away goal, which makes the second leg a must-win for the Spanish Giants if they hope to win the Champions League this season.

Most defenders instill little confidence in their teams. However, a rare few like Sergio Ramos has risen to the occasion whenever his team has needed him.

Cuqui’s impact in the Champions League is proof of the fact mentioned above. In the 2013-14 UCL final against Atletico Madrid, Ramos scored an infamous goal that turned the tie.

This would not be the last time that Ramos would be the deciding factor for Madrid in a crucial game for them. Coincidentally, the Spanish center-back scored his 101st goal in the Champions League, achieving what only a few other defenders could do.

Therefore, Madrid’s hope of Ramos’s return in the S/F second leg would be the blessing they desperately need.
