Rafinha Alcantara was a Barcelona player in 2017. Subsequently, he met PSG in the Champions League at the knockout stages. PSG hurt Barcelona and had them up against the ropes after the first leg. They demolished the Catalan club on a four-nil margin in the first leg on February 14th, 2017, at the Parc De Princes.
PSG thought they had dispatched the five-time Champions League winners with relative ease through their first-leg performance.
But alas! They rued their overconfidence, as Barcelona and Rafinha routed a young PSG side. Barca scored six goals in the second leg of the fixture, conceding one. The Blaugrana staged an amazing comeback by knocking their opponents into oblivion and keeping them down for the count.
Rafinha, as a player, had begun his career at Nou Camp. He then chose to replace the red and blue of Barca for those of the Parisian giants on October 5th, 2020.
Rafinha has been in incredible form for Les Parisiens this season. He has assisted them thrice from the twelve games that he has played so far.
Rafinha is enjoying his time in the French capital. However, he cannot deny that La Remontada (the six-one loss to Barcelona) has not created a nervous tension in the PSG locker room.
Rafinha was not the only former Barcelona player to change sides to PSG after La Remontada. Neymar Dos Santos, a key player for Barcelona in that game, has now made PSG his home as well.
Furthermore, he praised his Brazilian compatriot in an interview with Le Parisien, as he said, “Neymar has shown a growth in his maturity while playing for Les Rouge Et Bleu.“
Rafinha: PSG need to wake up from their worst nightmare that is Barcelona
PSG faced Barcelona in the last-16 knockout stages on February 17th, 2021 at the Nou Camp Stadium. They emerged victorious, beating Barca by four goals to nil.
Rafinha before the game had said, “It is time for PSG to stop Barcelona from being a recurring bad dream.”
Furthermore, in an interview with Le Parisien, he said, “I can confidently say that all the PSG players want to get onto the pitch and win the game.”
Consequently, the absence of Neymar did not dishearten any of the players as they continue to strive. Rafinha knows that not all his lost and will hope to provide the knockout blow to his former side in the second leg of the fixture on March 11th 2021.
