Pep Guardiola Fears Manchester City Can’t Afford High Rated Players Like Erling Haaland

Pep Guardiola took over Bayern Munich from Jupp Heynckes in 2013.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola thinks players like Erling Haaland is a bit overpriced and the club can’t afford to buy the striker. The Cityzens are searching for a potential replacement to replace their living club legend Sergio Aguero who’s due to leave at the end of the season.

Borussia Dortmund reportedly wants €150M for their in-form striker despite having a contract with him till 2024. However, a release clause of €75M can be activated next year.

Erling, has scored 32 goals in 30 matches for the German side in all three major competitions and now a hot prospect for all the top European clubs. Adding on, Haaland and his team will face Manchester City at the UEFA Champions League Quarter Final.

The Norwegian’s agent Mino Raiola has met with Real Madrid as well as Barcelona for a potential move as well. The Cityzens coach believes the asking price is too high and Man City are certainly reluctant to go in for him.

Pep, in an interview conveyed about the situation, “I don’t know what is going to happen but at these prices we are not going to buy any striker.

If not Haaland, then who for Manchester City?

With the players got super expensive lately and financial fair play coming into the calculation, the clubs are finding it hard to rope in high end players like Haaland.

The 50-year-old coach further asserted, “It’s impossible. We cannot afford it. All the clubs are struggling financially, us as well. Today there is more chance we will not buy a striker next season.”

With Haaland being a ‘no-no’, the Spanish coach expressed that they’re looking for other potential targets as well. The list includes Spurs talisman Harry Kane.

The English giants are the current Premier League leaders, 14 points ahead of their bitter rivals Manchester United. It will be interesting to see if Manchester City manages to find a replacement to their talisman Sergio Aguero or eventually buy Erling Haaland in the near future. Only time will tell.
