Paul Merson Backs Manchester Utd Saying There’s Nothing “Wrong” To Finish Top Four in the Premier League

Paul Merson

After the 6-1 drubbing from Tottenham at the start of the season, Manchester United have gathered some form. They were at the top of the table for quite a while at the beginning of the season. However, they have hit a rough patch in recent times, dropping points in games they should have won.

Former Arsenal midfielder and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is of the opinion that United should be able to secure a top-four spot and capture European qualification. With the kind of history the red devils have, they should feature in the elite club competition of Europe.

With the depth in their squad and the quality of players, Manchester United Should surely be able to win more often than not. However, in recent seasons, that has not been the case owing to many reasons like managers being shown the door early in their tenure.

Paul Merson believes United can achieve top-four

Merson spoke about United’s chances and recent performances in his chat with Sky Sports. He said, “But they need to win something. It’s alright going and beating Man City and stopping the run, but you’ve got to kick on and go and win a trophy. Now the pressure is on – they’ve got the Europa and that’s it.

He continued, “They’re going to get Champions League football, I don’t see them finishing outside the top four so for Ole not to keep his job when teams like Liverpool, Chelsea, or Arsenal might not finish in the top four – it’s not as easy as it used to be to walk into the top four every year.”

Manchester United are second in the premier league standings. At the moment, they are in the Champions League spots. However, Leicester City are right behind them with only one point separating the two sides. In fact, Leicester knocked them out of the FA Cup with a brilliant brace from Kelechi Iheanacho.

With players like Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, and Bruno Fernandes in their ranks, United will surely look forward to performing well from now until the end of the season to hold onto that UCL spot.
