Barcelona skipper Lionel Messi was spotted in attendance during Joan Laporta’s inauguration ceremony. The Argentine was in a royal blue suit while players like Gerard Pique were in informal shirts.

A total of 300 guests were present in Camp Nou, while the newly appointed President took his vow. Laporta won the much-awaited election by 54% vote in his favor and beat the likes of Victor Font and Toni Freixa in the process.

As Laporta officially takes charge of Barcelona, the questions are once again popping in whether he can bring back the ‘golden days of the Nou Camp’ side. The 58-year-old was in charge of the club from 2003-2010, in which he transformed the shape and changed fortune for the Catalan side. This time he faces a different challenge though.

Barcelona is under a lot of debt because of the exploitations made by the previous president, Josep Bartemou. Above that, La Pulga’s future in the club is also a matter of concern for the new president. The fans expect new signings in the summer. However, keeping Messi in Barcelona is probably the toughest job he will deal with in the coming months.

Laporta promised a new future and is ready to take all the challenges. “We have a very important challenge, which we will do with courage and optimism, to return Barcelona to glory and joy. We want to have a great time again and thanks to the players, you are the ones who can really restore hope to this club”, is what the newly appointed President said during his inauguration.

Laporta promises to do everything in power to convince Lionel Messi to stay

There were a lot of discussions regarding the next coach of FC Barcelona. Some even speculated Xavi might make his return to take charge of the club. However, Laporta cleared that he believes in Koeman. He wants the Dutch to bring back the glory days of the Blaugranas.

‘The Lawyer’ pointed out Koemen during his speech and assured him all the support. In return, all he wants is to bring the Champions League back to Camp Nou. “Ronald, you know you have the confidence of this board. We want a very competitive team that aspires to win everything and reclaim the success story between Barcelona and the Champions League”, said the President.

Joan Laporta also promised that he will do everything in his power to convince Messi to stay in the club. The Argentine wanted to leave the club last year itself but couldn’t happen because of few circumstances. Thus, it’s ideal for him to leave this summer as he will not have to deal with the board since his contract will be up by June.

I will do everything I can to try to convince Leo to stay. We will try because he is the best player in history and forgive me for telling you in front of everyone here, but you know how much I love you and how much we want you to stay“, were his words which made Lionel Messi smile sitting in the stands.

Laporta’s arrival brings a fresh new environment in Barcelona which was lagging behind. The 58-year-old promised to strengthen La Masia and defend the Barca shield in every manner possible. Will Barcelona able to achieve everything under Laporta is definitely to thing to see for the future but the start of the new era looks promising.
