Karim Benzema has received his summons to appear in court following allegations of blackmail in the year 2015. Benzema will appear in court between October 20th and 22nd, 2021, for a second trial.

Karim Benzema committed the act of blackmail on his fellow countryman Mathieu Valbuena by means of a sex tape. Another national team-mate, Olivier Giroud, spoke vehemently against the Real Madrid striker. The incident led to the arrest of Benzema on November 4th, 2015, and France national coach Didier Deschamps forever banned him from playing in the national team.

Following the announcement of a second trial, Coco spoke to the media of his frustrations. In an interview on March 30th, 2021, he said, “how much longer do I need to endure this farce for.”

His lawyer supported his client’s statement by saying, “This case is absurd. My client has not done anything wrong.”

Monetary benefits were the motivation behind Benzema’s act of blackmail, and it is silly for a man making seventy-nine million pounds annually. Despite the allegations and the evidence against him, the French striker refuses to acknowledge his mistake. Real Madrid is remaining silent on the issue, and the decision of Deschamps did not motivate Los Blancos to take action against the Frenchman as well.

The reason for their silence has to be the reliance that they have on Karim Benzema. After all, he had made himself a vital part of the BBC (Bale, Benzema, and Cristiano).

Can Madrid afford to ban Coco from their lineup?

Madrid has been highly reliant on the thirty-three-year-old Frenchman since he joined them from Lyon on July 1st, 2009. Coincidentally, Karim had made himself indispensable for the French side as well. He recorded sixty-six goals and twenty-six assists in a hundred and sixty-eight appearances for Olympique Lyon.

In his debut season (2009-10)at the Santiago Bernabeau, he recorded nine goals and six assists in thirty-two overall. Thus, his first season ended on a slow note as he could not make a significant impact. Since then, he has recorded two hundred and sixty-three goals and a hundred and seventeen assists in five hundred and thirteen games in La Liga and UCL.

In addition to that, Benzema is a vital entity for Madrid against other big teams. He has accumulated a strong record against them and saved Madrid from defeat on many occasions. Unfortunately, he is at his weakest against El Clasico and Madrid rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. He could only record one assist in the eight times he has faced them in the UCL.

Furthermore, his staggering record against Barca and Atelti in the UCL is not the only challenge he has to overcome in the current season.

Coco has scored many goals in La Liga, and there is no doubt in his ability to operate as a striker. However, he is yet to win a golden boot in the Spanish top division. This is mainly due to the effectiveness of Lionel Messi (Barca) and Luis Suarez (Atletico).

This season Benzema has scored seventeen goals in twenty-four appearances. Thus he finds himself in the fourth position of the top goal-scorer list behind Messi, Suarez, and Gerard Moreno (Villareal).

Therefore, Karim Benzema has other worries aside from his court case and cannot afford to be distracted in his quest for another Champions League title.
