Erling Haaland is an exceptional player for Dortmund. It would stand to reason that comparisons will be made between the Norwegian striker and football GOATS, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Though Haaland appreciates the comparisons, he believes himself to be a player of his own mold and caliber.

Erling Haaland scored two goals in the game against F.C. Koln on March 20th, 2021, in the Bundesliga. They have increased his record to twenty-one goals in twenty-one games from nineteen goals in twenty games. Furthermore, Haaland was also influential in taking Dortmund to the position that they are in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.

This record is also reminiscent of Messi and Ronaldo’s breakout seasons in Barcelona and Real Madrid, respectively. Messi had recorded thirty-four goals in thirty-five appearances in the 2009-10 La Liga season. In comparison, though, Ronaldo recorded thirty-three goals in Madrid’s thirty-five appearances (2009-10).

In an interview on March 22nd, 2021, Haaland said, “I only think about myself as a player. There is no point in me thinking about Messi and Ronaldo. They are the best players in the history of football, and I am not at that level yet. Therefore, the comparison is not valid since I need to achieve more to be at the level they are in.”

Should Haaland be compared to Messi and Ronaldo?

Erling Haaland is at the same age that Leo and CR7 were when they fought each other for the title of G.O.A.T frequently. However, Haaland’s record in the Bundesliga fails compared to the records created by LM10 and Cris at La Liga. The reason for that is the lack of competitive football in Germany.

A list built based on competitiveness ranked La Liga at 2nd and Bundesliga at 3rd. So, a player of Haaland’s talents making his name in Germany is impressive, but if he were to make a move to Spanish League, he might not create the same effect there.

Nonetheless, the twenty-year-old striker has proven himself to be a force to reckon with in the Champions League.

Haaland has more Champions League goals that Leo and Ron this season!!!!

The Norwegian international has played in the U.C.L. for just two seasons and has hit a career-high of twenty goals in just fourteen games. This record beats the record of Messi and Ronnie, who could only achieve that after playing forty (Messi) and fifty-six (Ron) games in the U.C.L. This record is further proof of the reason behind the comparison with the current G.O.A.T. holders.

Haaland has the opportunity of bettering this record as Borussia Dortmund has qualified for the Champions League Quarter-Finals. He will now have two legs to add more goals to his record. Should his team reach the finals, he would have five extra games to set himself apart from the aging forwards he is being compared to.

Haaland has bettered Messi’s record, and because of that, Barcelona will make a move for Norwegian if he is open to a move away from Dortmund.

Barcelona is interested in signing Haaland to their team at the end of the current season. Following talks of a move for the Norwegian, Ex Barcelona player Luis Suarez has admitted that he would prefer to play with Haaland over Mbappe if given a chance.

Luis Suarez left Barcelona with bad blood between them, but Barca would be more interested in signing ‘The terminator’ after Suarez’s endorsement.

Therefore, a move for Haaland could be a possibility, with new President Joan Laporta making a lot of promises to the Culers of a more robust team behind want-away star Lionel Messi to keep the Argentine at Nou Camp.

However, Erling Haaland is happy at Dortmund, and a move to Barcelona will not interest the youngster for now.
