Brighton returned disappointed to their hometown of Brighton Hove and Albion, following, a one-nil defeat to West Bromwich Albion. The game took place at the Hawthorns Stadium on February 27th, 2021.
Brighton had shown their resolve from the point of kick-off till the final whistle was blown by referee Lee Mason. Furthermore, Brighton had seventy percent possession, a high Expected XG, fifteen shots taken on goal, and eight chances created throughout the game.
The forty-nine-year-old referee disallowed one of the goals taken by Brighton, which added to the misfortunes faced by the Seagulls this season. Mason had awarded a free-kick to the Seagulls and Lewis Dunk lobbed it over the wall of the West Brom defense.
Moments later the goal was disallowed and the English referee stated that the twenty-nine-year-old was not supposed to take a free-kick without his say so.
Following the Englishman’s decision, the center back expressed his remorse and discontent. Subsequently, in an interview with Sky Sports on February 27th, 2021, he said, “Mason lost control of the game. I had asked him if I could take the free-kick and he had granted permission for it.”
The Englishman further stated, “Why does Mason not want to talk about what has transpired? Why is he hiding from the press?”
The loss at the Hawthorn Stadium pushes the number to ten after twenty-five games were played.
Brighton will host the Foxes at the American Express Community Stadium
Brighton has hosted Leicester three times at their home stadium. However, the statistics show that they have twice and drawn once against the 2016 Premier League Champions.
Graham Potter will hope that his Brighton side uses the loss to invigorate themselves and fight hard and well for a win against Leicester City. Brendan Rodgers has been vital in making Leicester a team to reckon with.
Brighton will have their hands full when taking on Rodgers’ men on March 4th, 2021. Consequently, if another loss is recorded they could fall into the relegation zone.
