Tariq Lamptey limped off the field after Brighton drew against Fulham on December 16th, 2020. Brighton announced that the twenty-year-old will remain on the sidelines for the rest of the season.

Prior to his injury Lamptey was one of the star performers for manager Graham Potter, alongside Adam Webster and Neil Maupay. Coincidentally, Webster got injured as well and left Potter without the resources of his foremost defenders.

Tariq Lamptey’s absence will be a massive loss for the Seagull and Graham. They are just above the relegation zone on goal differences. Hence, further losses will cost them another season in the Premier League.

The absence of Lamptey from the team is a huge loss for us says, Graham Potter

In an interview on March 13th, 2021, Potter said, “We are sad to announce that Tariq Lamptey will be out for the rest of the season because of a hamstring injury. He is making slow progress in recovering, but we have asked him to take it easy for some time. There is no point in rushing his return and risking his safety on the pitch.”

While talking to the media about Lamptey, Potter was in shock and disbelief. He had expected the Englishman to come back to his side and secure his backline defensively and help the attackers in scoring crucial goals.

The Lamptey effect at Brighton and Hove Albion

Tariq Lamptey joined Brighton from Chelsea on January 31st, 2020, on a free transfer. Following his arrival, the youngster assumed the role of right wing-back.

He terrorized the opposition defenders with his occasional bursts of speed on the wings. The Ex-Chelsea star made himself a priority for The Seagulls, as he recorded one goal in nineteen Premier League appearances.

However, his exit from the team will mean that Brighton will be without an attack-minded defender for the eleven games they are yet to play in the EPL.

Tariq Lamptey wanted by Arsenal and Bayern Munich

Bobby Zamora urges Lamptey to avoid a move away to Arsenal or Bayern

Following the youngster’s form at the American Express Stadium Arena, he is a target for fellow league rival Arsenal and Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich. Subsequently, both these sides want the Englishman to play under their banner.

However, former Brighton star Bobby Zamora urged the twenty-year-old to refuse a move away from Brighton. Zamora was a proficient striker for the Seagulls. He recorded eighty-three goals in a hundred and fifty-one appearances for his former side.

In an interview on March 12th, 2021, Bobby said, “At the age that Tariq is currently at, regularly playing football should matter more to Lamptey. Brighton offers him the venue to grow as a player, and he should use their help for as long as possible. If he joins Arsenal or Bayern, he will not get the minutes that he requires.”

Therefore, Tariq Lamptey would benefit from staying at Brighton beyond the current season. Furthermore, he can help Brighton gain promotion from the Championship next season if they are relegated at the end of the 2020-21 EPL season.
