Florentino Perez has kept the European Super League on standby. This decision came as a shock after the original twelve teams dwindled down to three.

Florentino Perez, Real Madrid’s President and the brain behind the ESL received shocking news recently. The news stated that the founding members of the following league had left it due to the backlash they received from their fans.

Yet, the Spaniard refuses to disband operations. He has kept his team in the ESL despite warnings from UEFA, La Liga and FIFA to ban Madrid from participating in any competitions. In an interview on 22nd April 2021, Perez said, “We will keep the venture in standby. The Super League never wished to be a destroyer of football.”

“No one can leave the contract in legal terms due to it being binding” said Perez.

The teams in the Super League who have stuck beside Perez and his dream are Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus. The reason behind Los Blancos remaining in the league can be understood, but Barcelona and Juventus have no reason to stay loyal to the seventy-four-year-old.

In this way Perez’s confidence in the league would never diminish considering two of the world’s biggest clubs have stayed on. Florentino Perez decision to keep the league on standby would further antagonize the football federations. They have already ruined the Spaniards plans once and will not hesitate to do so again.

For Madrid themselves, the ESL would only be a hindrance. Their presence in the league can ruin the chance to win the Champions League may slip out of their hands.
