Florentino Perez believes, the fear of one club ruined his plans for the European Super League. Perez had worked out all the kinks to kickstart a new league.
Unfortunately, one club threw water on his plans.
Following Chelsea’s exit from the breakaway league, the other English clubs backed out one by one. This news infuriated the Real Madrid President, who became irritated with the lack of professionalism displayed. Though Chelsea started the disbanding of the league, Perez never stated the London club as the cause for this.
In an interview on 22nd April 2021, Florentino Perez conveyed, “A board member from the EPL never came on board with the idea. This in turn created a doubt in the minds of other clubs.”

“It’s disappointing to see that the ideology of the Super League received only misunderstandings. Through the league we hoped to help the other clubs in the world with aspect to financial and competitive help” Perez further explained.
In addition to the EPL clubs, the clubs from Serie A and La Liga like AC Milan and Atletico Madrid also followed suit of the English clubs.
On this matter, Perez said, “The project remains on standby and AC Milan have not officially left.”
Due to Perez’s position as the President of the ESL, the Spaniard himself cannot ask for Madrid to back out. But with Barcelona and Juventus sticking by him, Perez would not want to leave his dream of the ESL lying standstill.

One of the reasons behind his decision to start ESL can be the fact that he believes the UCL to be obsolete. On this point, Perez asserted, “The Champions League does not hold much water until the Quarter Finals stage.”
However, Real Madrid could suffer on account of the arrogance of their President and in turn, lose any fame and glory that could get in the future.
